Chhattisgarh: DRI arrests 4 drug traffickers, seizes 375.95 kg ganja, 2 trucks

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested four individuals and seized 375.95 kilograms of cannabis in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The operation, which took place on Tuesday, also resulted in the seizure of two trucks used to transport the narcotics.

According to officials, the DRI acted on specific intelligence regarding two trucks traveling from Visakhapatnam to Raipur via Odisha. Upon intercepting the vehicles near Old Dhamtari Road, officers conducted a search and discovered 61 packets of cannabis concealed within 10 sacks in the loading areas. Field-testing kits confirmed the substance as cannabis, leading to the arrest of the four suspects under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

In a separate operation, the DRI Mumbai Zonal Unit reported the dismantling of an international gold-smuggling syndicate. Authorities seized 691.87 grams of 24-carat gold, valued at approximately Rs 1.10 crore, which had been concealed inside a treadmill motor imported from Hong Kong.

Two individuals, including a Chinese national and a representative of the importing firm, were arrested in connection with the Mumbai seizure. The DRI stated that the investigation into the smuggling operation has led to searches across multiple locations, including Mumbai, Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpattu. Officials allege that the syndicate utilized legitimate commercial imports to facilitate the smuggling of gold.
