CCC advances legislation, tax and governance progress

The Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) convened a meeting of the Private Sector Working Group on Legislation, Tax and Governance on Thursday to address ongoing regulatory and compliance challenges affecting the business community. The session, held at the CCC office, aimed to facilitate discussions on existing hurdles and identify new issues to be presented to the Ministry of Economy and Finance for potential resolution.

The meeting was chaired by Arnaud Darc, CEO of Thalias Hospitality Group and private sector co-chair, and attended by CCC Director General Nguon Mengtech. Participants included representatives from the Private Sector Tax Technical Working Group and various enterprises operating within the tax sector.

During the session, stakeholders reviewed a range of operational difficulties currently impacting private sector growth. Key topics of discussion included complexities surrounding share transfer taxes, cross-border trade friction, and the enforcement of value-added tax on imported tobacco products.

The working group also addressed broader regulatory concerns, such as copper export duties, the illicit trade of alcohol and tobacco, and regulations concerning sugary drinks. Furthermore, the meeting touched upon outstanding requests for intervention regarding employer-employee disputes.

The initiative is part of the broader Government-Private Sector Forum, which serves as a platform for dialogue between the state and the business community to improve the investment climate and resolve administrative obstacles.
