Cameroun: 17 Days Left to Register on Electoral Lists
In Cameroon, citizens have 17 days left to register on the electoral lists, with the revision operations set to end on August 31, 2026. The electoral law stipulates that these operations will resume on January 2, 2027.
According to Elections Cameroon, the body responsible for organizing elections, at least 150,000 new voters have been enrolled since the start of the operations in January, with 40% of them being women. As of July 2026, the number of new voters had increased compared to May, which recorded 107,412 new voters, including 71,941 young people between the ages of 20 and 35.
The increase in enrollment is attributed to the mobilization of Elections Cameroon’s enrollment teams and sensitization efforts. The organization is leading a sensitization campaign, with the support of partners such as UN Women and civil society organizations, to encourage potential voters to register on the electoral lists. The campaign focuses on women, young people, and people living with disabilities, aiming to increase their representation in the electoral lists and encourage them to take a greater interest in politics.
The challenge for all stakeholders is to boost registrations before the end of the period in two weeks. The upcoming electoral deadlines are also a motivation for citizens to enroll. Elections Cameroon and its partners are intensifying their efforts to encourage citizens to register, emphasizing the importance of defending their rights and representation in decision-making spheres.
After August 31, the electoral lists will be closed until January 2, 2027, making it essential for citizens to take advantage of the remaining time to register. The sensitization campaign will continue to urge potential voters to enroll, with a focus on underrepresented groups.
