Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander has announced the nomination of Deputy Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin to act as Commissioner of Police. Alexander also announced the nomination of Assistant Commissioner of Police Anand Ramesar to act as Deputy Commissioner of Police. The nominations were submitted by the Police Service Commission as part of the constitutional process governing appointments to the senior leadership of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. Benjamin, who currently serves as a Deputy Commissioner of Police, has previously acted in the position of Commissioner of Police. The appointments will place Benjamin and Ramesar in two of the most senior leadership positions within the TTPS for the respective acting periods. Under Section 123 of the Constitution, nominations by the Police Service Commission for the offices of Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police are submitted to the President, with the subsequent notification requiring approval by the House of Representatives.
