A nurse at the Badhargachi Upazila Health Complex in Naogaon was injured after an altercation with two of her colleagues over a night‑shift roster. The incident occurred on Wednesday, 28 October, at about 11:30 a.m. near the emergency department of the hospital. The victim, Shahana Parvin, a senior staff nurse, said that a dispute over the night‑shift schedule had escalated into a physical confrontation. She claimed that the two nurses, artist Akhtar and his sister Lipi Akhtar, who also work at the complex, attacked her. “I was shocked when they beat me. I was hit on my eyes, mouth and other parts of my body,” Parvin told reporters. She added that she had been hospitalized for treatment and was still receiving care three days after the incident. Akhtar and Lipi Akhtar denied the allegations. They said that Parvin had repeatedly insulted and verbally abused them. According to them, the conflict began when Parvin criticized Akhtar’s handling of the roster. “We went to find out why she was scolding us, and then she attacked us,” they said. They also claimed that Parvin had taken a pair of gold bangles weighing about one kilogram and a gold chain weighing eight “anna” from Akhtar’s hand. The two nurses have filed complaints with the police and said the matter will be heard in court. The nurse who was on duty at the time of the incident, Shirin Akhtar, stated that she was not present during the altercation. She later learned of the incident and expressed her shock at the violence that occurred within the hospital. The incident has drawn criticism from hospital staff and the local community. Badhargachi police officer Habibur Rahman said that both parties have filed complaints and that the case is under investigation. The hospital’s resident medical officer, Dr. Asaduzzaman Nahid, who is chairing a five‑member investigation committee, said that the committee is working on the matter and will submit a report within the next week, recommending disciplinary action against those responsible. The committee was formed after the hospital’s management decided that the incident had damaged the institution’s reputation. Dr. Kanis Farhana, the upazila health and family planning officer, said she had only recently become aware of the incident and that the hospital’s image had been affected.
