Alexander Zverev se convertirá en el nuevo número uno del tenis mundial

Alexander Zverev will become the world No. 1 in men’s tennis on Monday, becoming the 30th player in history to reach the top of the ATP rankings. The 29‑year‑old German secured the position after reaching the quarter‑finals of the Vienna Open, where he defeated Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor. Zverev’s rise to the top spot replaces Italian Jannik Sinner, who is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury. The German’s ascent was also helped by the loss of points by Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz, who was injured for the first third of the season. Born in Hamburg, Zverev had already secured the number‑one ranking for the 2026 season. At 29 years and six months, he will be the second oldest player to reach the top of the rankings for the first time, behind Australian John Newcombe, who became No. 1 at age 30 in 1974. He will also become the second German to hold the top spot, following Boris Becker. Zverev joins Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic as the fifth active player to have reached world No. 1.
