Bøter til Vålerenga og Sarpsborg – fansen brøt NFFs pyroregler

The Norwegian Football Association (NFF) has issued a series of fines to clubs whose supporters used fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices during recent matches. The decisions were made by the NFF’s disciplinary committee and were published in a recent update of the association’s list of sanctions. Vålerenga – 12 September, Åråsen Vålerenga was fined NOK 197,125 for the use of fireworks and other pyrotechnic items by its supporters during the match against Lillestrøm. The committee’s statement notes that a number of objects were thrown onto the pitch, several “knallskudd” (fireworks) and rocket‑like devices were fired, and a large number of “blinkers” were used. The fine was increased because Vålerenga had previously been penalised for similar incidents earlier in the season. Lillestrøm was also fined, receiving NOK 55,000 for the use of fireworks in the same match. April 2024 – First meeting in Oslo After the season’s opening match in Oslo, the NFF imposed fines on both clubs. Vålerenga was fined NOK 40,000, while Lillestrøm received an identical amount. These sanctions were also related to the use of pyrotechnics by supporters. Sarpsborg – 13 September, Østfold derby The NFF’s disciplinary committee fined Sarpsborg NOK 157,500 following the derby against Fredrikstad. The committee cited that Sarpsborg supporters fired a total of 15 rocket‑like devices during the pre‑match entry. Sarpsborg had previously been fined NOK 24,500 after the first match of the season. Fredrikstad was fined NOK 105,000 for its supporters’ use of fireworks. Regulatory context The NFF has issued a number of fines for illegal use of pyrotechnics in recent seasons. Prior to the 2026 season, the association lowered the penalty rates for repeated illegal use. The NFF’s supporter coordinator, Freddy dos Santos, explained that the “tribune belongs to the supporters, and their expression has great value for them and everyone who attends Norwegian matches.” He added that pyrotechnics are an important part of supporter culture, a view that the Norwegian Supporter Alliance (NSA) has made clear. The Ministry of Justice and Public Security has granted the NFF a dispensation for the use of fireworks and pyrotechnics during the current and next seasons. The dispensation comes with strict requirements, including a minimum safety distance, sanctions for illegal use, and mandatory notification to fire and rescue services. The fines reflect the NFF’s ongoing effort to enforce safety regulations and maintain order at football matches.
