Leko, Jakirović, Valdas, Sopić, Gattuso: našima preslabi, u Europi im se dive

The Croatian top‑flight league is known for its frequent coaching changes, and this season has seen five managers who had brief spells in Croatia go on to earn respect across Europe. Željko Sopić, who took charge of NK Osijek in February 2025, oversaw 13 matches until his dismissal in November. During that period the club recorded one win, five draws and seven defeats. Sopić has since moved to Lithuanian side Kauno Žalgiris, where he has managed 25 games, achieving 13 victories, six draws and six losses. Under his guidance the team entered the UEFA Conference League, captured the Lithuanian Cup and currently sits at the top of the A Lyga, with four matches remaining before the season’s conclusion. Speaking about the short tenure of coaches in Croatian football, former club official Rajko Magić said, “We are weak, in Europe they admire us. People who run our clubs have very short stints. I have experienced it myself.”
