The 31st Ecotourism and Production Fair will take place in Bona O from November 5 to 15, 2024. The event aims to support the development of Monseñor Nouel province and improve the quality of life for its communities. The fair is organized by the Fundación Ciencia y Arte (FCA). Jacqueline Boin, president of the FCA, and Ambassador José Serulle Ramí, founder and president, said the fair will bring together public institutions, businesses and social organizations to exchange ideas and promote initiatives that benefit the province. The fair has been held since 1989 in various parts of the country, according to Boin and Ramí. During a press conference held on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Dominican Association of Milk Producers (Aproleche) in the Livestock Fair, the organizers announced that Russia will be the guest of honor. Other invited countries include El Salvador, the People’s Republic of China and Haiti. The fair will feature a range of activities, including the construction of exhibition pavilions and booths made from local materials, a conference hall, and an amphitheater for artistic and cultural presentations. The FCA representatives were accompanied by Magdelyn Genao, coordinator of the Local Support Committee; Eberto Núñez, mayor of Bona O and president of the Organizing Committee; and Solangel Velásquez, representing Hecmilio Galván, director of the Fondo Especial para el Desarrollo Agropecuario (FEDA). They highlighted that Monseñor Nouel has natural resources and cultural heritage that provide a foundation for ecotourism, which, together with agriculture and livestock, could create jobs and business opportunities. FEDA will hold its first Water Fair as part of the program. Other participants include the municipalities of Bona O and Piedra Blanca; the municipal councils of La Salvia, Los Quemados, Blanco and Juma‑Bejucal; the Development Council; and the Ecotourism Cluster, with support from the provincial government. Ministries of Agriculture, Defense, Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT), Education and Culture, as well as universities, academic centers, cooperatives, security agencies and companies involved in livestock, cocoa and rice production, will also be present. The provincial Organizing Committee, composed of representatives from various sectors of Monseñor Nouel and members of the Federation of Tourist Guides, will oversee the event.
