India Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Global Diplomatic Missions Extending Heartfelt Greetings
New Delhi, India – August 15: As India marked its 80th Independence Anniversary, international diplomatic missions, ambassadors, and partner nations based in New Delhi shared heartfelt greetings, honoring the country’s democratic journey, civilizational heritage, and robust bilateral partnerships.
The Consulate General of India in Shanghai celebrated the milestone despite challenging weather conditions, with Consul General Shri Pratik Mathur leading the festivities attended by over 400 members of the diaspora and friends of India. The mission stated, “As India celebrates 80 years of glorious independence, the sun finally shone in typhoon-hit Shanghai for our unprecedented celebrations.”
The US Embassy in India extended its greetings, emphasizing the significance of the diplomatic relationship between the two nations. The Embassy stated, “We extend our best wishes to our friends across India as you celebrate this special day. The historic relationship between the world’s largest democracy and the world’s oldest democracy is consequential and far-reaching.”
Other diplomatic missions, including the High Commission of Bangladesh, the Embassy of Israel, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the High Commissioner of Singapore to India, also extended their warm wishes to India on its Independence Day. The Embassy of France marked the occasion by highlighting the sentimental bonds shared by diplomats stationed in the capital.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the National Flag at the Red Fort, accompanied by a 21-Gun Salute by the gunners of the 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial).
The celebrations were not limited to India, as Team India also hoisted the Tricolour in Galle, Sri Lanka, to mark the nation’s 80th Independence Day. Indian men’s cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir paid tribute to the freedom fighters, saying, “We remember the brave souls who laid their lives in the long Freedom Movement.”
The diplomatic community’s greetings reflect the strong bilateral partnerships and cultural ties between India and other nations, as the country continues to strengthen its global relationships and celebrate its independence.
