Saint Lucia Launches EC$1,000 Newborn Support Grant
Saint Lucia has introduced a new financial assistance programme aimed at helping families meet some of the costs associated with welcoming a newborn.
Under the Newborn Support Grant, eligible families will receive a one-time payment of EC$1,000, equivalent to approximately US$370, for qualifying newborns.
The initiative forms part of the Government of Saint Lucia’s wider social support measures and is intended to provide families with additional financial assistance during the early stages of a child’s life.
The grant can help parents offset expenses associated with caring for a newborn, including basic infant supplies, nutrition and transportation.
The programme comes amid continued concern across the Caribbean about the rising cost of living and the financial pressures facing households, particularly families with young children.
While EC$1,000 will not cover the full cost of raising a newborn, the payment represents direct financial assistance at a time when families can face significant new expenses.
Saint Lucia’s initiative also adds to a broader regional conversation about government support for parents, newborns and young families as Caribbean countries explore different measures to strengthen social protection.
