Bangladesh Seeks Increased Diesel Imports from India

Bangladesh has requested India to increase its diesel exports through an existing cross-border pipeline, as part of efforts to enhance energy cooperation between the two countries.

The request was made during a meeting between Bangladesh’s Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, and the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dines Tridevi, at the Secretariat.

According to Minister Mahmud, the meeting was a routine bilateral engagement, during which the two sides discussed various issues of mutual interest, including energy cooperation. When asked about the significance of the meeting, Mahmud stated that he had met with the Indian High Commissioner on several previous occasions, indicating that the talks were part of regular diplomatic consultations between the two nations.

Minister Mahmud confirmed that Bangladesh had asked India to increase diesel supplies through the pipeline, but did not provide further details on the expected increase in imports. The move is seen as an attempt to strengthen energy ties between Bangladesh and India.
