‘Criminal Minister’: Rahul Gandhi Accuses Dharmendra Pradhan of Destroying Education System

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday, calling him a ‘criminal minister’ and accusing him of single-handedly destroying India’s education system. During a press conference at his residence, Gandhi displayed a 19-year-old youth, Sahil Lochab, who was injured by a pellet gun during a protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20.

Gandhi said, ‘Dharmendra Pradhan is a criminal education minister. He is the symbol of the collapse of our education system. He must go. Because of him, thousands are on the streets.’ The protest was against the NEET paper leak, organized by the Cockroach Janata Party, which led to clashes with police leaving over 100 injured.

Sahil Lochab, a resident of Najafgarh in southwest Delhi, was protesting peacefully with the national flag when police allegedly fired pellet guns. He lost vision in his right eye, and doctors at AIIMS’ Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre have given only a 1% chance of recovery. Gandhi displayed injuries on Sahil’s hand, back, and chest as evidence.

While police deny the use of pellet guns, Gandhi’s strong allegations and the visual of the injured youth have intensified the political controversy. The incident underscores the growing tensions between the government and opposition over education policy and police conduct.
