Jute Boom: Good Yield, Stable Prices Boost Trade in South-Western Bangladesh

South-western Bangladesh is experiencing a jute trade revival this season, with farmers reporting good yields and stable prices, according to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Jashore. The strong output has kept trade active, though rising production costs have slightly narrowed profit margins.

Despite the cost pressures, farmers say the high yields make cultivation worthwhile. ‘Returns are still attractive because we are harvesting more than last year,’ a local farmer noted. The DAE confirmed that jute cultivation has been robust across the region, supporting a steady supply to markets.

The stable price environment is a welcome relief for growers who have faced volatility in recent years. Traders are optimistic that if conditions hold, the season could end with significant economic benefits for rural communities.

Jute remains a vital cash crop for Bangladesh, and this season’s performance underscores its continuing importance to the agricultural sector.
