Sierra Leone has secured another influential position within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Madam Francess P. Alghali, has been approved as the new ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security.
The appointment marks a significant milestone for Sierra Leone’s diplomatic footprint in the region. As Commissioner, Alghali will oversee key areas including political stability, conflict prevention, and peacebuilding across West Africa.
Her elevation comes at a time when the region faces multiple security challenges, from terrorism to political unrest. The role is critical in coordinating member states’ responses and promoting democratic governance.
Alghali brings extensive experience from her tenure at Sierra Leone’s Foreign Ministry, where she handled international cooperation and diplomatic relations. Her appointment is expected to strengthen Freetown’s influence in ECOWAS decision-making.
