3 US Experts To Help Overhaul Mauritius Flood Drainage Master Plan

Three American experts will arrive in Mauritius this month to help overhaul the island’s national flood‑drainage master plan. The visit follows a technical assistance agreement that was endorsed by the U.S. Embassy and highlighted by the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday, 6 November. Recruited under the Ambassador’s Water Expert Program, the team will be on the island from 8 to 23 November 2026. During their two‑week mission they will review the current Land Drainage Master Plan, conduct technical workshops, and consult with key local stakeholders. A focused two‑day workshop on 19 and 20 November will aim to develop a detailed roadmap to improve Mauritius’s resilience to major flooding events. After the visit, the experts will submit a comprehensive report outlining specific recommendations for future flood management across the country. The Land Drainage Master Plan serves as Mauritius’s primary framework for assessing flood risks, drainage infrastructure, and watershed characteristics, providing essential hydrological and hydraulic evaluations for flood‑prone zones. The planned review seeks to ensure the master plan remains fit for purpose amid evolving conditions and emerging flood‑management challenges.
