ZNS Completes First Phase of UNZA Rehabilitation, University Set to Reopen

The Zambia National Service (ZNS) has completed the first phase of rehabilitation works at the University of Zambia (UNZA), clearing the way for the institution to reopen its doors to students. ZNS Commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi confirmed that the rehabilitation has been successfully finished and the university is now ready for occupation.

Speaking during an inspection of the completed works, Lt Gen Solochi said the effort was part of ongoing collaboration between ZNS and educational institutions to restore infrastructure and ensure a safe learning environment. The rehabilitation focused on critical facilities that had fallen into disrepair, including lecture halls, hostels, and administrative blocks.

The reopening of UNZA comes as a relief to thousands of students whose academic programs were disrupted. The university management is expected to announce a specific date for resumption of classes in the coming days.

Lt Gen Solochi commended the ZNS team for their dedication and urged students to take good care of the refurbished facilities. He also reaffirmed ZNS’s commitment to supporting national development through similar infrastructure projects across the country.
