**Two Men Linked to Process for Alleged Fraud in UNAM Admission Exam**
*Mexico City –* A judicial authority has formally linked two individuals, identified only as Edgar N. and David N., to a criminal process for alleged fraud in the admission examination of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). The decision was issued during a continuation hearing in which the Public Ministry presented evidentiary material before the corresponding criminal courts.
During the hearing, the judge reclassified the alleged offense from the fifth to the first paragraph of the Mexican Penal Code. According to the court record, the reclassification was not contested by the public representation present at the session. Under the revised classification, the defendants could, in principle, resolve the case by paying a monetary fine and remain free while the proceedings continue.
Despite the legal reclassification, both Edgar N. and David N. remained in custody after the hearing concluded. Their defense attorney, criminal lawyer Sergio Bravo, asserted that the judge and the Public Ministry failed to order their release, which he described as a procedural violation. Bravo indicated that his legal team intends to file a formal request on Monday to modify the precautionary measure and seek the defendants’ liberation.
The court also set a deadline of five months to complete the complementary investigation phase of the case.
The allegations pertain specifically to the alleged manipulation of the UNAM admission exam; no conviction has been rendered at this stage. The matter remains under investigation, and the defendants retain the presumption of innocence pending final adjudication.
