UNIZIK opens Afreximbank-backed trade centre to boost AfCFTA goals

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has inaugurated the Prof. Ngozi Egbuna International Centre for Regional Integration and Trade Research, a facility backed by Afreximbank to advance trade policy research and the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The university said the centre will serve as a hub for research, innovation, and capacity development, targeting regional integration and the practical realisation of the AfCFTA. The launch positions UNIZIK as a key player in trade-related scholarship and policy engagement across Africa.

Afreximbank’s support underlines the growing focus on evidence-based trade policies to unlock the continent’s economic potential. The centre is expected to produce research that guides governments, businesses, and regional bodies in navigating the AfCFTA framework.

The facility is named after Prof. Ngozi Egbuna, recognising her contributions to trade and regional integration research. It will undertake studies on trade barriers, value chains, and integration strategies, with an emphasis on actionable outcomes for African economies.
