Antiguan-Linked Journalist Criticises Trinidad Airport While Praising Antigua
Media journalist and digital creator Melina Roopnarain has sparked discussion online after criticising the appearance of Trinidad and Tobago’s airport while praising Antigua’s V.C. Bird International Airport.
Roopnarain, whose public Facebook profile lists New York, New York as her location and Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda as her hometown, shared her views while travelling through Trinidad.
In the video, she described Trinidad’s airport as “one of the most disappointing” airports she has encountered during her Caribbean travels.
Roopnarain said she was particularly unimpressed by the exterior of the facility and contrasted it with Antigua’s airport, which she described as beautiful.
She also praised Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne, referring to him as the “World Boss” and crediting his administration with putting money into making the country’s airport attractive.
“We just offering constructive criticism,” Roopnarain said, stressing that she was not attempting to bash Trinidad and Tobago.
She later declared that Trinidad’s airport “ain’t got nothing on Antigua Airport” before giving further praise to Antigua.
During the video, Roopnarain also recalled a previous journey through St Kitts where she said she experienced a seven-hour delay and had to purchase food while waiting. She thanked a travelling companion for bringing snacks on her latest trip.
Her comments represent her personal assessment of the airports based on her travel experiences and not an independent comparison of their facilities, services or performance.
The video has since attracted reactions and comments online, with the comparison between two major Caribbean gateways generating discussion among viewers.
