TikToker Warns of Widespread Identity Fraud at Trinidad and Tobago Financial Institutions

A TikTok video posted by Shivam Teelucksingh has raised allegations of possible identity fraud involving financial institutions in Trinidad and Tobago, with claims that loans, insurance policies, mortgages and credit cards may have been opened using individuals’ identities without their knowledge.

In the video, Teelucksingh described several alleged scenarios, including people receiving calls about loans they said they never applied for, discovering insurance deductions for policies they were unaware of, and finding credit card accounts they claimed they never opened.

According to Teelucksingh, some of those allegedly affected only recently became aware of the issue after reviewing their financial information.

He also claimed that one person known to him attempted to report an alleged incident to a bank but was turned away.

“They already turned down one person that I know already,” Teelucksingh said.

Teelucksingh further suggested that some of the alleged activity could involve individuals working within financial institutions. However, he provided no evidence in the video establishing internal involvement, and TG News has not independently verified the allegations.

He also referred to previous alleged incidents involving insurance policies, claiming that some people had money deducted regularly for policies they did not realise had been established in their names.

Teelucksingh highlighted one particularly unusual allegation involving a mortgage, claiming that someone was able to obtain financing using another person’s identity despite the alleged victim being unable to qualify for a mortgage themselves.

He urged members of the public to carefully review their bank and financial statements, particularly accounts that are rarely used, including old salary and savings accounts.

Anyone who discovers an account, loan, policy or transaction they do not recognise should contact the relevant financial institution and consider reporting suspected fraud to the appropriate authorities.

Teelucksingh also encouraged people who believe they or their relatives have experienced similar incidents to come forward and share their experiences.

The allegations contained in the video have not been independently verified by TG News, and no specific financial institution was identified as responsible for the alleged activity.
