A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after his mother was killed and his 12-year-old sister seriously injured in a suspected domestic violence stabbing in Perth’s southeastern suburbs on Tuesday morning.
Police were called to a home around 6:25 a.m. local time, where they discovered the body of a 35-year-old woman. The victim’s daughter had fled the scene and was later found by members of the public in a neighboring suburb, suffering from serious injuries. She was taken to hospital for treatment.
Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo confirmed that the injuries sustained by the woman and the girl were consistent with stab wounds. The 16-year-old son of the deceased was arrested at the home.
“While the investigation remains in its early stages, police are investigating this as a suspected family violence homicide,” Securo said. “This incident will have a significant impact on the family, friends and loved ones of all those involved.”
Crime scenes have been established at both the home and the location where the girl was found. Investigations are ongoing, and police have not yet announced any charges against the teenager.
