TCM’s soothing care reaches Cambodia’s remote border communities

**Traditional Chinese Medicine Team Provides Free Treatments in Remote Cambodian Border Communities**

*Banteay Meanchey, Cambodia – 29 August 2026* – A team of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners from the Sichuan Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine has completed a one‑day free clinic in the Svay Chek district of Banteay Meanchey province, near the Thai border. The clinic, organized by the Chinese Medicine Clinic of the Cambodia‑China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital, treated more than 600 patients, according to Le Chansangvat, director of the provincial health department.

Among the patients was 69‑year‑old Tob Savoeun, who reported chronic limb weakness and persistent hip pain that had lasted for about two years. After receiving acupuncture, Savoeun said she felt “relieved” and expressed gratitude for the free treatment. An 80‑year‑old patient, Bun Fa, who suffers from lower‑back and knee pain, gastritis, and hypertension, also reported a reduction in pain following acupuncture.

The TCM team, the fifth such delegation sent to Cambodia, arrived in Phnom Penh on 9 August 2026 to replace a previous group whose one‑year mission had concluded. The eight‑member team includes specialists in acupuncture, cardiovascular medicine, orthopedics, critical care, and nursing. In addition to the free clinic in Svay Chek, the team provides diagnostic and treatment services at its primary clinic in Phnom Penh and travels to other provinces to offer free care and short‑term training for local medical practitioners.

Koeurng Raksmiy, a Cambodian doctor at the Chinese Medicine Clinic, described the one‑day clinic as “invaluable,” noting that the Chinese practitioners delivered “precise, careful, hygienic, and effective” treatments. He added that TCM offers a drug‑free option for managing general pain, stroke‑related complications, and lower‑back or knee pain.

Le Chansangvat said the clinic received strong support and high satisfaction from patients, with many reporting significant relief after acupuncture. He indicated that the popularity of TCM is growing among local residents.

Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies commonly include acupuncture, moxibustion, and Tuina remedial massage, and have been reported to benefit conditions such as insomnia, chronic pain, chronic cough, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and interstitial lung disease.

The free clinic is part of ongoing bilateral health cooperation between Cambodia and China, aimed at expanding access to medical services in remote and underserved areas.
