The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board has appointed Tavengwa Mukuhlani as its Deputy Chairperson. His term in the position is set to run until November 2027.
Mukuhlani, who currently serves as the Chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket and represents the organization on the ICC Board, succeeds Imran Khwaja following Khwaja’s departure from the Board. In addition to his board duties, Mukuhlani serves on the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee and the Nominations Committee, and he chairs the HR and Remuneration Committee.
The appointment coincides with preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, which is scheduled to be co-hosted by Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Namibia. This event marks the return of the tournament to Africa after 24 years.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah welcomed the appointment, noting that Mukuhlani is the first Zimbabwean to serve as Deputy Chair. Shah stated that Mukuhlani’s experience in cricket administration and his understanding of the global game would be valuable to the ICC Board as the organization works to expand the sport and prepare for its return to the Olympic Games.
In a statement, Mukuhlani expressed his gratitude for the appointment. He stated that he looks forward to working with the Chairman and fellow board directors to advance the ICC’s priorities, including the growth of the sport and the development of opportunities for member nations.
