Young artists from across Trinidad and Tobago put their creativity on display at C3 Centre as part of the “Designing the Future of Tourism” National Secondary Schools Art Competition, held in recognition of World Tourism Day. The competition challenged secondary school students to imagine what the future of tourism in Trinidad and Tobago could look like, with a particular focus on smarter and more sustainable development. More than 30 submissions were received, with students using art to explore different aspects of the country’s tourism potential. Their pieces featured themes ranging from Trinidad and Tobago’s natural environment and marine resources to culture, heritage, renewable energy and environmentally responsible development. Several of the young competitors were given the opportunity to publicly display their artwork at C3 Centre, allowing shoppers and visitors to see their interpretations of the country and the possibilities they envision for its tourism sector. The competition also highlighted how younger generations are thinking about the relationship between tourism and environmental protection. Some pieces explored renewable energy and greener infrastructure, while others focused on protecting wildlife, marine ecosystems and natural attractions. C3 Centre congratulated competition winners Cameron Kishunlall, Trystan Peters, Yasirah Jairam, Khai Taylor, Deanna Roberts, Nikelle Ly Fook, Shivana Ramkisson, Govindra Maharaj and Jada Paul. The organisers said the more than 30 entries demonstrated creativity, imagination and inspiring ideas for the future, while providing young people with an opportunity to contribute their own perspectives to conversations surrounding tourism. The World Tourism Day showcase ultimately placed the spotlight not only on Trinidad and Tobago’s attractions, but also on the young artists imagining how those resources could be protected and developed for generations to come.
