Small Earthquake Believed Felt in Trinidad Early Monday; UWI SRC Yet to Confirm

A small earthquake is believed to have shaken parts of Trinidad early Monday morning, after several residents reported feeling a brief tremor around 5:30 a.m. The event prompted widespread discussion on social media, with many users describing a sudden, short-lived shaking sensation.

Google’s Android earthquake detection system also flagged the event, displaying a notification indicating reports of nearby shaking. The system, which uses ground movement data from multiple Android devices, detected unusual activity consistent with a minor seismic event in the area.

Despite the public reports and automated detection, the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre has not yet officially confirmed the earthquake. As of publication, no details regarding the magnitude, depth, or exact epicenter have been released.

Authorities have not reported any damage or injuries linked to the suspected tremor. The event appears to have been minor, with no immediate cause for alarm.

TG News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as soon as official seismic data becomes available from the UWI Seismic Research Centre.
