The Shortland Islands Constituency Office has finalized the delivery of its 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) program, according to a statement released by the Solomon Islands Ministry of Rural Development on 17 September 2026. The distribution marks the completion of the constituency’s $5 million allocation, which consisted of $3.2 million through the CDF Preferred Supplier Arrangement and $1.8 million in grant funding.
The final shipment, which began earlier in September, included 57 boats and 57 outboard engines. According to the government statement, the People’s Republic of China contributed $1.5 million toward 16 of these boats and engines under the Rural Sustainable Development Programme. Additional distributed items included 40 water tanks, 15 solar freezers, a solar-powered walk-in cool room, 2,606 bags of cement, 1,500 sheets of plywood, a borehole drilling machine, and a desalination machine.
Member of Parliament Isikeli Vave Jnr described the delivery as a significant milestone for the region, highlighting the installation of the Mono Island cool room and the constituency’s first desalination machine. Constituency Development Officer Bernard Vave stated that the items fulfill the four project categories mandated by the CDF Act 2023. He added that planning for 2026 projects will proceed once national government funding is allocated.
Ministry of Rural Development Permanent Secretary John Misite’e commended the constituency for the completion of the program, noting the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting constituency offices. In addition to the CDF-funded items, the constituency office provided relief supplies to Saint Annes Rural Training Centre at Nila to assist with recovery efforts following Cyclone Maila. These donations included 100 cartons of noodles, three glass canoes, three paddles, and two sewing machines.
