Serbien i chock efter valet: ”Var extatiskt”

On Monday morning, Belgrade’s streets were filled with commuters after a night of celebration. Fireworks that had lit up the city the previous evening were replaced by the honking of cars, and crowds streamed into the city center as people returned to work. The mood in the capital reflected the shock of Serbia’s election results. Nationalist leader Aleksandar Vučić and his Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) were defeated by the Student List, a coalition of student and civic groups. The outcome has been described by some as “ecstatic,” with many citizens still trying to grasp the significance of the change. “I am not even close to understanding what has happened,” said Nikola Živković, a resident of Belgrade. “It was ecstatic.” Živković echoed the sentiment of many voters who celebrated the unexpected victory of the Student List. The streets of Belgrade were marked by jubilant crowds, fireworks, and the sound of honking cars as the city adjusted to a new political reality.
