A semi-truck rolled over on the Trans-Canada Highway in the Rural Municipality of Whitehead on Saturday, resulting in injuries to two people on board. According to Brandon RCMP, the incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. when the semi, which was traveling east, veered into the south ditch and tipped onto its side. The two occupants were treated by emergency medical services at the scene. The driver of the semi received a ticket for driving carelessly under the Highway Traffic Act.
In a separate incident, a 23-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges in connection with a single-vehicle rollover that occurred on December 7. The collision happened on First Street, just south of Kasuriak Bay, around 1:30 a.m. when a vehicle flipped onto its roof, trapping the driver inside. Brandon Fire and Emergency Services safely removed the driver, who was unconscious and rushed to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Police requested a warrant to determine the driver’s blood-alcohol concentration, which was later found to be 0.214 per cent. The man was arrested on Sunday and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol concentration exceeding 0.08 per cent. He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on October 1.
