Russia has declared that Moldova is no longer a safe destination for travelers, escalating tensions between the two nations. The Russian Foreign Ministry, through spokesperson Maria Zakharova, issued the warning after Russian diplomatic couriers were denied entry at Chișinău airport last month.
Zakharova stated that Moldovan authorities blocked the couriers, calling into question the country’s safety for Russian citizens. The incident adds to a series of disputes, including Moldova’s pro-European stance and criticism of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The travel advisory could affect Moldovan-Russian relations and may prompt reciprocal measures. Moldova has not yet officially responded to the statement, but the move is seen as a diplomatic pressure tactic by Moscow.
