Ringulreið á Ballon d’Or: Birtu fréttir um sigurvegara áður en hátíðin hófst

The Ballon d’Or ceremony, scheduled to take place tonight at the Palladium Theatre in London, has been the subject of pre‑announcement rumours. According to reports from the BBC and other outlets, the Ballon d’Or website published a series of articles in the hours before the event that named potential winners of the award. The first article, released 4½ hours before the ceremony, claimed that England striker Harry Kane had already been awarded the Golden Ball for 2026. Subsequent posts listed other footballers who were purported to have won the prize, including Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi. Separate articles also named women’s footballers Alexia Putellas and Ewa Pajor as recipients of the women’s Golden Ball. It is unclear whether these posts were the result of a mistake or a deliberate strategy to generate discussion and heighten anticipation. The Ballon d’Or organisers have not yet confirmed the accuracy of the pre‑announcement articles. The awards ceremony will begin at 20:00 Icelandic time (20:00 GMT) and will be broadcast live on DAZN. The winners will be formally announced and presented during the event.
