**Quito Resumes Classes; Traffic Conditions Monitored on First Day of the Academic Year**

Quito, Ecuador – On Tuesday, 1 September 2024, students in the city’s high schools (Bachillerato) and early‑education programs (Educación Inicial) returned to classrooms as the new academic year began. The reopening is being carried out in phases, with additional grade levels scheduled to start between 2 and 3 September, according to the Ministry of Education.

Municipal and traffic authorities reported that the city’s road network was closely observed on the first day of classes to assess the impact of the increased movement of students and school staff. Preliminary observations indicated that traffic flow was generally stable, with no major incidents reported during the morning rush hour. Police and traffic‑control units were deployed at key intersections near major schools to facilitate the safe and orderly movement of pedestrians and vehicles.

The phased return to in‑person instruction follows the conclusion of the summer break and aligns with the broader schedule for schools in the Sierra and Amazonia regions of Ecuador. Officials emphasized that continued coordination between the education sector and traffic management agencies will be essential to maintain smooth mobility throughout the semester, especially as additional student cohorts resume classes in the coming days.
