Quién es el bombero detenido en el operativo de seguridad por el papa León XIV: ¿peligro real o paranoia oficial?

A 25‑year‑old volunteer firefighter was detained by police in Palermo, Buenos Aires, on Sunday morning during a security operation that was part of the preparations for Pope Francis’s visit to the city. The suspect, Tomas Eduardo Natenzon, was arrested for allegedly carrying false personal and vehicle credentials and for possessing a license plate that appeared to be used by registered radio operators. Natenzon was taken into custody by the Buenos Aires Police and placed under the jurisdiction of federal prosecutor Carlos Rivolo and judge María Romilda Servini de Cubria. He is scheduled to be questioned on Monday, but investigators are first reconstructing his profile. According to his own social‑media posts, Natenzon presents himself as a communications specialist. On September 8 he posted on Facebook that he had successfully completed a course to obtain a “Radio Operator Radio Telephone Restricted License” issued by the Federal Police of Argentina. He wrote that the intensive training covered regulation, legal norms, physics, chemistry, mathematics, antennas, maritime and aeronautical operations. He noted that of the 30 participants, 12 passed the certification, including five members of the “Radios Troncalizadas Comunicaciones” team of the Volunteer Firefighters of the City of Buenos Aires. He thanked the Federal Police for the opportunity and posted a photo of himself in the Federal Police’s Central Training Technology Division. The police said that Natenzon was found near the Monumento a los Españoles, where a stage had been erected for the Pope’s arrival. The arrest took place on Avenida del Libertador and Kennedy, less than 300 metres from the monument and adjacent to the U.S. Embassy. Officers noted that he was wearing a volunteer firefighter uniform, had a purported authorization of circulation, and was carrying four communication devices. They also observed that the license plate on his motorcycle matched those used by registered radio operators. Natenzon’s family has said that he has Asperger syndrome. A source told Clarín that “everything is being checked, from his credentials as a firefighter to the alleged autism spectrum disorder.” Natenzon’s online profile describes him as a “radio aficionado” and lists his occupation as the sale of communication and mobile phone equipment. He claims to have joined the Volunteer Firefighters of Vuelta de Rocha in 2020 to specialize in communications. Earlier in his life, he reportedly grew up in the Cardales neighbourhood, played golf and horse riding, and studied at the ORT. The security operation that led to his arrest was part of a broader effort to secure the city for the Pope’s visit. The first mass for the pontiff is scheduled for tomorrow, with a youth meeting planned for Tuesday night. The police and judicial authorities are treating the case with seriousness, and no charges have yet been filed.
