PM Persad-Bissessar Urges Unity, Safety as Trinidad and Tobago Celebrates 2026 World Cup Final

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has issued a message marking the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final, describing the event as a moment when the world pauses for football.

In her statement, she noted that billions across continents and cultures gather around one game and one shared moment of anticipation. She called football a universal language that transcends borders and differences, reminding that despite what separates people, shared hopes, passions, and joy remain.

A self-described lifelong fan, the Prime Minister recalled looking forward to every World Cup with excitement. She reflected on unforgettable victories, the heartbreak of defeat, and the skill, teamwork, discipline, and moments of brilliance that define the beautiful game.

Persad-Bissessar stressed that football’s greatest triumph is not the final score but its ability to bring people together. She noted that families gather, communities unite, friendships are renewed, and for a while, the world feels smaller and closer.

She encouraged citizens across Trinidad and Tobago who are gathering in homes and public spaces to watch the final to enjoy the occasion safely, peacefully, and in the true spirit of sportsmanship. She urged applause for the players’ courage and skill while celebrating the unity the game inspires.

“While only one nation will lift the trophy,” she said, “football belongs to us all.” She closed by wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and memorable World Cup Final and asked for God’s continued blessing on Trinidad and Tobago.
