Pittsburgh vant i Paris: – De er idioter

The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the New Orleans Saints 16‑10 in a Sunday night game played at the Stade de France in Paris. The contest, which took place on 18 October 2023, was the first NFL regular‑season game held in France and was conducted with a heightened security presence, including additional police outside the stadium. The game began with a 42‑year‑old Aaron Rodgers, who had previously played for the Green Bay Packers, throwing the first touchdown pass of the night to Darnell Washington, who caught the ball at a height of 2.01 m in the end zone. Five minutes later, Saints rookie Tyler Shough answered with a touchdown pass to Devaughn Vele. Pittsburgh kicker Chris Boswell added three field goals, helping the Steelers take control of the game. Rodgers finished the game with a decisive run for a first‑down near the end of the contest, securing the win for Pittsburgh. The NFL’s decision to hold the game in Paris was met with calls for postponement or relocation. Former U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking outside the White House on Friday, suggested that the league could have postponed the game, citing the unrest in France. “France is really in trouble,” Trump said. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, however, expressed confidence in the security arrangements. “I feel very safe,” Goodell told reporters, noting that the league had worked closely with French and U.S. authorities and had implemented a comprehensive security plan. The league also announced a heightened security presence around the stadium. NFL‑journalist Mike Florio, founder of Pro Football Talk and a contributor to NBC Sports, called for the game to be moved to London or postponed to Monday, arguing that the risk was not worth it. Florio’s comments were echoed by former Steelers and Saints player Mark Madden, who posted on X that “Steelers and Saints players should refuse to travel to Paris” and described fans who did as “incredibly stupid” and “idiots.” Madden’s remarks were reported by The Spun. The league’s stance was reinforced by statements from U.S. officials. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio said the U.S. embassy expected the game to proceed without incident. Saints executive Greg Bensel also supported the decision, noting that the club had maintained daily contact with security partners and had not experienced disruptions in its operations in France. On Friday, Goodell met with club owners Gayle Benson (Saints) and Art Rooney II (Steelers) and French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the game and the NFL’s future in France. The meeting was reported by Front Office Sports. The game was broadcast on RedZone via VGTV, and the Steelers’ victory marked a successful execution of the NFL’s first international regular‑season game.
