Bishop Stephen Adegbite, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, has stated that Catholic Cardinal John Onaiyekan refused to recognize Bola Tinubu as president in 2023. According to Bishop Adegbite, Cardinal Onaiyekan’s decision was contingent upon the Supreme Court’s ruling on the 2023 presidential election petitions. Bishop Adegbite recalled that Cardinal Onaiyekan had said he would not extend recognition to Tinubu until the Supreme Court had made its decision.
