NIMC DG Asked To Resign Over APC Campaign Council Appointment

**CITAD Calls for Resignation of NIMC Director‑General Over APC Campaign Council Appointment**

*Abuja, Nigeria – August 29, 2026* – The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has publicly demanded that Dr Bisoye Coker‑Odusote, the Director‑General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), step down from her post. The call follows Dr Coker‑Odusote’s recent appointment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections.

In a statement released on Saturday, CITAD said the appointment creates a conflict of interest, arguing that a senior official of a federal agency responsible for managing citizens’ biometric data should not hold a partisan political role. The organization specifically faulted Dr Coker‑Odusote’s involvement with the APC campaign council, though the statement did not detail any alleged misconduct beyond the perceived incompatibility of the two positions.

The NIMC, an agency under the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, is tasked with overseeing Nigeria’s national identity system, including the issuance of biometric ID cards. Dr Bisoye Coker‑Odusote has served as the commission’s Director‑General since her appointment in 2023.

No response from Dr Coker‑Odusote or the NIMC has been reported as of the time of publication. The APC has not commented on the matter.
