Kelso Beach at Nawash Park in Owen Sound has been deemed safe for swimming once again. According to Grey Bruce Public Health, water samples taken on Tuesday showed that bacteria levels have returned to within the safe guidelines established by Ontario’s Ministry of Health.
The swim advisory, which was posted on Friday due to high bacteria levels in the water, has been lifted. The advisory was issued after routine samples revealed elevated bacteria levels, posing a risk of illness or infection to those who swam or played in the water.
Andrew Barton, Senior Public Health Manager, expressed appreciation to residents and visitors who adhered to the swimming advisory. Grey Bruce Public Health reminds the public to exercise caution when swimming or allowing children to play in outdoor water, as water quality can change depending on weather conditions.
The public is advised to use their best judgment before swimming and to avoid swimming if they cannot see their feet in waist-deep water or if it has been 24 to 48 hours after a heavy rainfall.
