Canada to Hold Eighth Federal Byelection by Mid-April
An eighth federal byelection will be required in Canada by mid-April, prompted by the upcoming exit of Conservative MP Larry Brock.
Brock, who was first elected in 2021 to represent a riding in southwestern Ontario, now known as Brantford-Brant South, has announced that he is leaving the House of Commons to take a position with the City of Brantford’s prosecutor’s office in the province of Ontario.
This development comes after two other Conservative MPs, Kathy Vagtall from Saskatchewan and Richard Martel from Quebec, also stepped down this summer. Martel was appointed to the Senate.
The byelection is expected to take place between August 31 and mid-April.
