News Helicopter Crash In Los Angeles Leaves One Person Dead

At least one person has died after a news helicopter crashed and burst into flames in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles on Tuesday night. The aircraft went down shortly before 7 p.m. between two commercial buildings near the 9100 block of North Mason Avenue in Chatsworth, according to reports from the Los Angeles Fire Department. The helicopter appeared to come down near shipping containers and several parked vehicles before a large fire erupted. Firefighters launched an offensive attack on the blaze and extinguished the flames while emergency personnel worked at the wreckage. CBS Los Angeles reported that firefighters erected a canopy over one body after the fire was extinguished. Authorities had not immediately confirmed how many people were aboard the helicopter.

The crash occurred near the scene of another major emergency that several news helicopters had been covering. Earlier Tuesday evening, an SUV collided with a Los Angeles Metro bus near Nordhoff Street and De Soto Avenue in Chatsworth. Two people were killed and several others were injured in that collision, prompting a major emergency response.

Multiple helicopters were reportedly operating over the area covering the bus collision before the aircraft went down. The cause of the helicopter crash remains under investigation. This is a developing story.
