The Diasporan Perspectives (DP) think tank, established in 2025 by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, has launched a call for research proposals aimed at producing an anthology on the contemporary Armenian Diaspora. The initiative seeks to answer the overarching question: where is the Armenian Diaspora heading in the 21st century?
DP commissions, publishes, and disseminates new social science research focusing on the Armenian Diaspora and Armenia. It serves as a convening space for leaders, policymakers, and experts, bringing a unique diasporan perspective to Armenian national issues. The call is open to diverse disciplinary and theoretical approaches, with a focus on contemporary issues.
The anthology will explore communities facing challenges from instability, such as those in the Middle East, as well as newly formed diasporan groups. Topics include institutions like churches, political parties, and schools, as well as individuals making significant contributions. The relationship between the Diaspora and the Armenian nation-state is a major aspect, including how independent Armenia has influenced diasporan identity.
Abstracts of up to 400 words must be submitted by 1 September 2026. Accepted academic papers will receive an honorarium of 2,000 EUR, with policy paper amounts to be determined. The deadline for final papers is 31 July 2027, with publication expected in 2028.
