The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) is ramping up efforts to boost Kwara State’s non-oil export earnings, focusing on cashew, sesame seeds, and soya beans. At a stakeholders’ consultative meeting on Export Cluster Development in Ilorin, the council outlined plans to develop agricultural clusters that can strengthen the state’s export capacity.
The initiative brings together farmers, processors, and exporters to create a coordinated value chain. By concentrating on these three crops, NEPC aims to increase production quality and volume, making Kwara a key player in Nigeria’s non-oil export sector.
Stakeholders at the meeting expressed support for the cluster approach, noting it could improve market access and attract investment. The move aligns with federal efforts to reduce dependence on oil revenues and bolster foreign exchange earnings through agriculture.
