Quisianna Graham is calling for answers and justice following the killing of her 23-year-old son, Jalon “Lolo” Graham of Union Village, Tobago, who was shot on the night of May 29.
Standing near the area where her son was killed, Graham told reporter Liz Williams that she remains troubled by what she has been told about the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to Graham, she was told that someone jumped over a wall at around 10 p.m., approached the area where her son was and shot him. However, she questioned that account, asking why no alarm was raised if an unknown person had emerged from the nearby bushes.
She also raised questions about what she said she observed when she arrived at the scene.
Graham said her son’s pockets appeared to have been turned out, while his food remained neatly packed on a nearby bench. She questioned how those details fit with the account that he had been walking when he was suddenly attacked.
The grieving mother strongly rejected any suggestion that her son was involved in gang activity.
She said Jalon had no criminal record and, to her knowledge, had never been connected to any criminal offence in Trinidad and Tobago. She described him instead as a loyal friend who was loved throughout Union Village and beyond.
Graham pointed to the support shown following his death, including a friend who she said personally paid for a repast, as evidence of the relationships her son had built.
Her strongest appeal was directed towards people she believes may know more about what happened that night.
Graham called on the person who was working with her son to come forward and tell the truth. She also questioned why people she described as Jalon’s friends and men in the Union Village Hilltop community have remained silent.
She asked what happened that Friday night and why people who considered themselves his friends have not spoken about what they know.
For Graham, the unanswered questions have made an already devastating loss even more difficult.
Her son is now buried at Plymouth Cemetery, but she says she will continue seeking answers about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Her message to anyone with information is simple: come forward and tell the truth.
