**Mozambique’s Public Debt Reaches $17.5 Billion in First Half of 2026**

*Bissau, 27 August 2026* – According to the interim implementation report of Mozambique’s Economic and Social Plan and State Budget, the country’s total public debt stood at approximately 1.12 trillion meticais (US$17.5 billion) at the end of June 2026.

The report indicates that between January and June 2026, external financing disbursements used to cover the overall budget deficit amounted to roughly 12.5 billion meticais (US$195 million). In addition to external borrowing, the government also accessed the domestic financial market by issuing debt securities to meet its fiscal financing needs.

The figures were released by the news agency ANG and reflect the latest official data on Mozambique’s debt profile. No further commentary or analysis was provided in the report.
