In a small apartment in Paris’s 15th arrondissement, animal‑rights activists discovered more than 75 cats in a state of severe neglect.
The finding followed a forced eviction of a social housing unit. Police and a bailiff requested assistance from the animal‑protection group YouCare, according to the newspaper Le Parisien.
During the inspection, the YouCare team found additional deceased kittens in a freezer. The animals had been kept under intolerable conditions, and several were taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment.
Unable to accommodate all the cats, YouCare launched a rescue appeal. Approximately 30 cats were initially left in the apartment, where volunteers provide daily care.
Thomas Moreau, president of YouCare, suggested the situation may be an example of “Noah syndrome,” a psychiatric condition in which individuals accumulate large numbers of pets in confined spaces without the capacity to care for them properly.
Le Parisien reported the incident on Monday, citing Moreau’s statements and the actions taken by the rescue organization.
