The Peruvian government has launched an online platform allowing mototaxi drivers in the Loreto, Ucayali, and Madre de Dios regions to register fuel purchases for a new subsidy program. The initiative, managed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), provides financial support of 4 soles per gallon of gasoline or gasohol, capped at 100 soles per month for each eligible driver.
The subsidy program is scheduled to run for three months, offering a total potential benefit of up to 300 soles per participant. Arturo Ruiz, director of Road Transport Policies and Standards at the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), stated that approximately 53,300 drivers are expected to qualify for the aid.
To be eligible, drivers must operate category L5 vehicles and possess a valid national identity document (DNI), a current Class B, Category II-C driver’s license, and a valid SOAT or CAT insurance policy. Up to two drivers may be registered per vehicle. Fuel must be purchased at establishments registered with Osinergmin within the three specified regions, and drivers are required to retain electronic payment receipts to verify their claims.
The registration process is conducted entirely online through the official MEF portal at mototaxi.mef.gob.pe. Users do not need to create an account to submit their information. Once registered, the MEF will validate the data against records from the tax authority, SUNAT. Approved payments will be processed through the Banco de la Nación.
The government implemented this measure to assist public transport drivers in the Amazon region in managing the impact of rising fuel prices. The platform began accepting registrations on Saturday, September 19.
