Luis “Pipe” Urueta reconoce que la ofensiva de las Águilas no ha despertado

Luis “Pipe” Urueta, manager of the Águilas Cibaeñas, acknowledged that the team’s offense has not yet reached the expected level following a 6‑2 loss to the Tigres del Licey on Saturday. The Águilas had taken an early lead in the first inning, but were unable to sustain offensive production. “An offensive team, its key players still haven’t done the work, and we need to be patient and keep working,” Urueta said. He added that the coaching staff is doing everything possible to spark a timely offensive rebound. Urueta also explained his decision to keep left‑handed pitcher Génesis Cabrera on the mound against José Barrero, a right‑handed batter who had previously hit a double that gave the Tigres the advantage. “Cabrera has good numbers against Barrero, and Barrero historically does not fare well against left‑handed pitchers,” Urueta said. He noted that Barrero’s statistics against right‑handed pitchers were better, making Cabrera the preferred choice. The pitch, however, did not go as planned and Barrero hit the double. The manager lamented that the Águilas failed to capitalize on the early advantage. Jorge Bonifacio had hit a two‑run double in the first inning, putting the team ahead 2‑0. “At that point the momentum seemed to be on our side, but the offense fell apart,” Urueta said. He also mentioned that the team struggled to decipher the pitches of Tigres starter Vladimir Gutiérrez, who worked until the fourth inning and part of the fifth before being relieved. The defeat underscores the need for the Águilas’ key hitters to find their rhythm. The coaching staff continues to search for ways to reverse the team’s offensive slump.
