Lions bundelen krachten voor gezondheidszorg in Coronie

Lions Club Paramaribo West and Lions Club Commewijne have launched the Lions Health Project in the Coronie district of Suriname. The project aims to raise health awareness and encourage residents to pay closer attention to their well‑being. The initiative was carried out in partnership with Leo Club Cawna, the Regional Health Service (RGD), the Mobile Health Clinics Foundation Suriname, and the Lobi Health Center Foundation. Together the groups focused on three key health themes: general health, eye care, and diabetes awareness. The clubs emphasize that communities outside Paramaribo and other major urban centres should not be overlooked. In Coronie, residents need access to reliable health information, preventive care, and encouragement to undergo timely health checks. The project highlights that many health problems are not immediately apparent, and that early detection and awareness can prevent complications and improve quality of life. According to a press release issued by the clubs, the Lions Health Project demonstrates the power of joint projects and partnerships. By combining knowledge, resources, and community engagement, the clubs hope to create lasting impact. “Want where forces are combined, the possibility to make a difference grows,” the clubs said. The project aligns with the service‑oriented mission of Lions Clubs International, which prioritises health, vision, and diabetes awareness. While a single event can be a valuable first step, the clubs stress that sustainable health education and ongoing collaboration remain essential for meeting the needs of smaller communities.
