**Lebanese Justice Minister Calls Negotiations the Only Viable Path with Israel**
*Beirut, 3 June 2026* – In an interview with France 24, Lebanon’s Minister of Justice Adel Nassar said that diplomatic negotiations represent “the only viable alternative” to resolve the ongoing tensions between Lebanon and Israel.
Speaking on the programme “En tête à tête,” Nassar described the situation as “particularly complex,” adding that Lebanon finds itself “caught between the Israeli hammer and the Iranian anvil.” He reiterated the Lebanese government’s demand for a “total withdrawal” of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.
The minister also criticised Hezbollah, accusing the group of “refusing to lay down its arms,” which he said hampers any prospects for a broader settlement. Nassar’s remarks come amid heightened regional instability and renewed concerns over the potential for armed confrontation along the Lebanon‑Israel border.
The Lebanese government has not indicated any immediate shift in policy, but the minister’s comments underscore a preference for diplomatic engagement over military escalation. France 24 did not report any official response from Israeli authorities to the interview.
