Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has set aside Shs50 million in the current financial year to tackle bedbug infestations across the city. Executive Director Hajat Sharifah Buzeki announced the dedicated budget on Friday, urging local leaders to help identify the worst-affected communities.
Buzeki said the funds would enable targeted spraying and public health interventions in crowded areas where bedbugs have become a persistent nuisance. She called on councillors and community representatives to report hotspots promptly so that KCCA teams can act swiftly.
The allocation comes amid growing complaints from residents about bedbug outbreaks in informal settlements and rental housing. KCCA officials say the initiative is part of a broader push to improve sanitation and living conditions in Kampala.
Local leaders have welcomed the move but urged KCCA to ensure the funds are used transparently and reach the neediest neighborhoods. The authority says it will monitor the exercise and publish progress reports.
